Why I charge for the initial session

Some people may be a bit confused as to why I charge for the initial appointment when many other therapists don’t. The way I look at it everyone has their reasons for doing what they do and I can see how offering a free introductory session might encourage potential clients who may be put off by the cost.

The reason that I charge is because it’s an investment. It’s an investment by you to make sure that you are ready for the challenges that therapy may bring. It’s also an investment in me to make sure that I am ready to work therapeutically from the get go. I would much rather work this way than have a chatty first session that might take us nowhere. I also think that it gives clients a fairer reflection of what the therapy will be like it they choose to continue.

REMEMBER; Just because you pay for the first session doesn’t mean that you have to continue if things don’t work out. I’ve had many clients who decided after the first session that I/it wasn’t for them at this time.
